Experience a personalized surf lesson in Tamarindo, Costa Rica—an iconic destination recognized worldwide for its ideal learning waves and its appearance in the surf classic The Endless Summer. Tamarindo offers consistent, manageable waves that make it perfect for both beginners taking their first steps on a surfboard and intermediate surfers hoping to improve their technique.

Your certified, bilingual local instructor will guide you through every part of the learning process. The lesson begins at a convenient central meeting point, where you’ll receive your rashguard and surfboard. Before entering the water, you’ll practice the fundamentals on the beach, including how to position yourself on the board and how to “pop up” correctly.

Once in the water, your instructor will help you paddle out and coach you through standing up and riding your first waves. As you gain confidence, the focus will shift toward refining your stance, improving your balance, and better understanding how the waves move so you can catch them more effectively.

Throughout the 2-hour session, your lesson will be adapted to your needs and can include key techniques such as paddling, popping up, board positioning, stance, reading waves, safety principles, and proper surf etiquette. With guidance from experienced locals who have spent their entire lives in the Tamarindo surf, you’ll receive authentic insight and solid skills to help you truly enjoy Costa Rica’s best waves.
